Liz, Dirk and Eddie joined max for an event called Tour De Brewtah on Saturday the 8th. It was a great event with wonderful people. The event was similar to a bar crawl, except there was very little crawling and a lot more bike riding. About 200 people toured four breweries around Salt Lake City. It was a grand time full of riding bikes, sun and of course beer. The tour will probably happen again next spring. Mark you calendars now. Joe From Uinta… thanks for the beer.

Another winter has gone by. A mediocre one where the skiing was marginal and the beer drinking was above average. A new bar bike was purchased and as a testimonial to how mediocre the winter was for skiing, max got to ride the new bar bike to the bar several times during the ski season. The new bar bike also doubles as a wonderful grocery getter with max’s homemade recycling bin panniers.

The one addition that you might not notice from the picture is the flask holder.

It was a wonderful gift from joe-art.com that can be purchased from Ahearne Cycles.

To summarize, max had an ok winter and it looks like summer is going to be fun and on two wheels.

Bla bla bla hard economic times. We’re all tired of the economy as an excuse. A former roommate once told max that the best part of selling beer is that when times are hard, people drink beer. When times are good, people drink beer. The number two reason to be a beer salseman. The number one reason is, well you get to drink and sell beer for work. There are only a few better jobs in the world.

Buy max a beer will not adjust due to the economy or inflation. Buy max a beer barely understands inflation, but thinks it might be witchcraft. PBR does not cost .50 a can and porter in 32oz. glasses every day buy Tuesday does not cost $6, but that will not change on this site. Max will pick up the slack and the tip. It’s worth it.

However, max has recently ordered a crapload of new stickers. They are in the style of many of the other buy max a beer .com merchandice and are printed on really nice stock that won’t fall apart or fade nearly as fast as the old stickers many of you have received. This is not a plea to buy max more beer. Really, he needs more beer like he needs more scars (see flickr, max would like to point out that his playing is outweighing his drinking (see the about section)), but if you feel the need to buy max a beer, you might get some really nice stickers to prove to everyone that you bought max a beer.

Since max’s last infrequent post many things have happened. Max drank really good beer in 5 different countries with some really good people. The European tour was indeed a success. In Western Europe the drinking laws seem to be a little more relaxed than here in Utah. If you’re ever in any of the fine towns the tour visited (see previous post), please stop by. The venues were filled with very nice people. Some other places not mentioned on the tour list are The Forrest and The Bowery both in Edinburgh, Scotland. Max never made it to The Bowery but can guarantee by the people running it that it’s a fine place to visit.

The next beer related stop on the tour was home. The town of Park City turned 125 this year. Max was supposed to pour beer, but instead was chosen to be the beer garden door guy. There was no door. Much like the ironically named S.M.A.R.T. Program Utah has to allow people to pour beer in this fine state, the orginization of how things went at the birthday party was odd. Lessons were learned however. Important ones included: 1. You can get a DUI in Utah without being legally drunk. 2. You can get a DUI in Utah as far as 25′ from your car. 3. Come July 1, 2009 a lot of fines and other bad things about alcohol will be A LOT more severe.

The Telluride Bluegrass festival was a beer drinking highlight this summer. Liz and max both scored beer pouring volunteer gigs at the festival. This means they got free beer, tickets, got to see some amazing music, played with friends and generally had a really good time. New Belgium sponsored and brought the beer tent which KOTO volunteers poured. New Belgium is cool. That’s it. Take a look at their site for the myrad of reasons why they’re so cool. It will hurt, much like most mornings at Telluride.

Next? Well max and many others will help represent Recycle Utah in the 4th of July parade in Park City. Come out and play, max will take your empties as we stroll down Main St. The weekend after is the Lander Climbing Festival. Max is sure to be found in the Lander Bar a few nights. Come on by and have a beer. I’ll buy.

I just wanted to say thank you to all the strange, but wonderful people that have provided me with liquid substnance over the years. I’ll get the next round.

Thanks Diane, Stacey and Jamie. And thanks a lot to the silly people who damaged my liver in the mountains this weekend. Thanks Chris, Joe, Sarah, Richie, Rachael and of course, Liz.

If you’re in a bar, or private club as this state calls them, and beer only costs $3 for 32oz of (albeit weak) microbrew, please tip something. Tipping nothing on your $80+ tab does make the rest of us look really good, but I’ve never been that vain.

Really, I don’t care what country you’re from, how much cash you have, how lousy your job pays… if you can afford over $80 worth of beer and booze, you can afford to leave at least a few bucks.

Tip guide on an $80 tab:

$0 – Don’t expect to ever get served again. Remember that really big bouncer that checked your ID, he remembers your name, probably where you live.

$8-$10 – You’ll get a head shake, a sarcastic thank you and you will be ignored when there are other paying customers around.

$10-$16 – Good. You will be forgotten, but not thought poorly of. Remember, those beers were half price, so your tab should really be more like $100. You’re tipping about 10-15%.

$16-$20+ – When he said “Thank you.” he meant it. Don’t be surprised if you get passed drinks over waiting customers (the ones that tipped $10) if you come back tomorrow.
